The schoolhouse on Wheeler Road was transformed into a unique gift shop that was open for three weekends. Many thanks to everyone who helped make our annual fair such a huge success. The Christmas tree donated by Philip Jones farm was won by the Seymour family. The framed, signed David Merrill print was won by member, Audrey Haller. All of the vintage ornaments and the publicity in the Connecticut Post and the Monroe Courier brought in crowds of people from all over.Fairfield County. Elma Jean Wiacek knitted several scarves which were a big hit and disappeared as fast as she brought them in. Several members baked English muffin breads and other wonderful baked goods. There were many great items donated for Grandmas Attic and beautifully decorated sleds. The profits from our fair help fund restoration and repair projects at our three properties. Signed David Merrill prints of a view of the Monroe Green are available for $40 in the town clerk's office at the Monroe Town Hall as well as the book Images of Monroe which is in its 2nd printing for $20. The coverlets with scenes of old Monroe are available in navy blue and cranberry red at Country Hearts on Main Street in Monroe. They are $40 each. On Wednesday, Feb. 16th, the Monroe Historical Society, in conjunction with the Monroe Public Library, will conduct a special program titled "Preserving Your Documents in a Digital Age". This talk is geared toward the lay person who is interested in preserving their family photos, family history and genealogy records. A panel of experts will be present from the computer and photography disciplines as well as members of local historical and genealogical societies. The panel includes Brian Quinn, Ray DiGiovani, Bob Wilson and Bob Berthelson. John Babina of WMNR Fine Arts radio will be the moderator of the panel. This talk will also be of interest to those individuals who volunteer at libraries and local historical societies. The presentation begins at 7:30 PM at the Monroe Public Library, located at 7 Fan Hill Road in Monroe, right off the Monroe Green on RT # 111. In early January we mailed out letters requesting the annual dues. (New members and our Life Members did not receive the letter.) We are pleased with a large response to our letter. Treasurer, Christine Ehlers has received over 90 responses so far. If you haven't sent in your membership check, please send it to the Society at Box 212, Monroe. Many thanks for your financial support. Calendar of Events Feb. 16 Documents Preservation Round Table Discussion led by John Babina at the Monroe Public Library 7:30pm.
